Position Summary

The Heavy-Duty Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing heavy equipment and mechanical systems used in ski hill operations. This includes snow grooming equipment, related infrastructure to ensure safe and reliable operations.

This role is ideal for a hands-on mechanic who enjoys working in a outdoor environment and takes pride in keeping critical equipment running during peak periods.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment & Mechanical Maintenance

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair heavy equipment including:
  • Snow groomers
  • Excavators
  • Snowmaking equipment and pumps
  • Vehicles and mobile equipment
  • Small engines and support machinery
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues
  • Perform preventative maintenance to reduce downtime during peak season
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns in a timely manner

Operational Support

  • Work closely with hill operations, snowmaking, and grooming teams
  • Ensure equipment meets safety and operational standards
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs and records
  • Support off-season maintenance, repairs, and equipment prep

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety procedures and manufacturer guidelines
  • Report hazards, equipment issues, and safety concerns promptly
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Comply with all applicable occupational health and safety requirements

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • Experience working as a heavy-duty mechanic or similar mechanical role
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Experience with diesel engines, hydraulics, and mechanical systems
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
  • Comfortable working outdoors and in winter conditions
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred (not mandatory)

  • Heavy-Duty Mechanic certification / Red Seal
  • Experience with snow grooming or snowmaking equipment


Note: Certification is considered an asset but is not required for this role.

Working Conditions

  • Seasonal peak work during winter months, including evenings and weekends as required
  • On-call or flexible availability during high-demand periods
  • Outdoor and shop-based work in varying weather conditions
